How does this service work?

With CallWave Fax Line, you get your own personal fax number. Sending a fax to this number is no different from sending a fax to a standard fax machine. When someone sends a fax to your fax number, CallWave converts it to a computer-readable format and sends it to your email address. The fax also goes to the CallWave software on your PC. To view the fax, you can double click on the fax attachment in email, or double click on the fax entry in your CallWave window. You can print, forward, and save the fax, just like any other computer file.

How do I view faxes?

Your faxes are sent directly to your email inbox and also to the CallWave software on your PC. With most email applications all you have to do is double-click on the fax attachment to open it.

Viewing faxes with the CallWave software:

Online: If you're online when a fax arrives, you'll see the call in your CallWave window, and the fax will open automatically.

Not Online: If you're not online when a fax arrives, then you'll see the fax entry in your CallWave window the next time you go online. To view the fax, double click on the entry in your call list.

How fast will I get my faxes?

The CallWave fax service sends out a fax delivery email within seconds of receiving a completed fax transmission. The message should arrive in your email mailbox within a couple of minutes.

How do I change my fax settings?

You can modify your fax settings by visiting the Choose Features page in the CallWave Members Zone. On the Choose Features page, click modify next to Your CallWave Fax Number.

How do I change my name or email address?

Go to the Account Summary page and click the Name or Email Address link to update your account information.

Can I get a fax number in my area code?

CallWave currently provides fax numbers only with area code 775, which is located in Nevada.

How much will it cost to send faxes to my number?

Anyone sending you a fax from outside the 775 area code in Nevada will be charged according to their long distance phone company rates, (approximately 5-10 cents per minute in the United States). An average fax is about 2 pages and the transmission time is about 2 minutes, thus costing the sender about 10-20 cents.

How do my international and long distance senders send me a fax?

Sending a fax to a CallWave Fax Number is no different from sending a fax to regular fax machine. If the senders are in North America, they will need to dial 1 + your 10-digit fax number. If the senders are outside North America, they must dial their International Access Code (usually 00) + the U.S. Dialing Code (1) + your 10-digit CallWave Fax Number. The international code may differ depending upon the location of the sender.

How do I receive attachments when using AOL?

When receiving attachments with AOL you'll need to open your email with the attachment and download the file. To do this, click on "Download Now" in the lower left corner. Then save your fax to your PC. (Make sure you save it to a folder or drive that you are familiar with). To view the fax, go to where you saved the fax and double click on it.

How come I'm not receiving my faxes?

This problem is often cause by one or two problems:
  1. The sender is transmitting to the wrong fax number
Please verify that the person sending you a fax has your correct CallWave Fax Number. Your number appears your Account Summary and on your CallWave window, as shown below.

Call Wave Screenshot - Fax Client Displaying Fax Numbers
  2. Your email is not accepting the faxes
It is possible that your email mailbox does not have enough space available to receive the fax that was sent to you, or your message might have been mistakenly blocked by a spam filter. Please make sure your email box has plenty of space to receive a fax. It's a good idea to have at least one megabyte of available space.

In order to avoid spam filters or any other potential problems with your email account or ISP, your faxes are ALSO sent directly to the CallWave software on your PC. Your faxes are automatically logged and saved in your CallWave software window — it's like an emergency backup system. To get the version of CallWave software that shows your faxes in your CallWave window, click here.

Help! I am not able to print faxes correctly.

The most common printing problems are printing black pages and having a fax cut off at the edges. We suggest that you set the fax file format to "PDF" and view your faxes with Adobe Acrobat. By setting your file format to PDF and using Acrobat to view and print your faxes, you should have no problems printing

To set your fax file format to PDF, click here.

If you're still having problems printing your faxes, please be sure you have the correct printer driver installed for you printer. Check your printer settings and see if you can print documents in other programs. If you can't print other documents, review your printer manual and troubleshooting guide or contact the printer manufacturer.

Error message in Outlook Express.

If you use Outlook Express 6.0 and receive an error message that says, "OE removed the following unsafe attachments in your mail," then you need to change a setting in Outlook Express so that your fax attachments will not be removed. Please follow the instructions below.

In Outlook Express...
  1. Click Tools on the menu bar
  2. Select Options
  3. Select Security
  4. Uncheck the box next to "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus."
  5. Click OK
After completing these steps, you should be able to receive faxes again.
