Take the Call™

With the Take The Call™ feature you'll hear callers as they are leaving messages. If you decide to answer the call, we'll notify the caller, close your Internet session and ring your phone. The caller will be there waiting for you! If you decide not to answer the call, CallWave will take a message, which you'll hear on your PC speakers as usual.

Call Transfer

The Take The Call™ feature also lets you transfer calls to any phone (including your cell phone). When you transfer a call, you can speak with your caller AND stay online at the same time!

How do I enable the Take The Call™ feature?

To enable the feature, you'll need to visit the "Choose Features" section of the CallWave Members Zone.

When should I click the "Take Call" button?

There's no hurry... you can click the "Take Call" button at any time during your greeting or during your caller's message.

Will I be disconnected from the Internet if I use this feature?

It depends on which phone you select to connect the call. If you select "Take Call On My Phone" -- that's the phone line your computer is using to connect to the Internet -- you will be disconnected. If you transfer the call to any other phone, you will not be disconnected from the Internet.

What will my callers hear when I take a call or transfer a call?

Your callers will hear a CallWave greeting telling them to stand by while their call is connected to you.

When would transferring a call come in handy?

Maybe you're on the Internet and in the middle of doing something important, like making an online purchase. Suddenly you get a call... and the caller ID lets you know it's a call you can't afford to miss. You don't want to hang up your Internet connection, but you need to talk with the caller. The Transfer Call feature now gives you the power to stay online and catch the incoming call! When you hear a message being left and you really want to talk to that person, just transfer the call to your cell phone or other phone.
  • Now you can turn your cell phone into an instant second line and take advantage of free night and weekend cell phone minutes.
  • Are the kids online, tying up the phone line? Tell them to transfer those important calls to your cell phone.

How do I transfer a call?

When a call comes in while you're online, your CallWave window will appear on screen and show the menu below:

Call Wave Screenshot - Incoming Call Transfer

You can choose to accept the call on your home phone (and end you Internet session), or transfer the call to a phone number of your choice (like your cell phone) and remain online. After selecting one, just wait for that phone to ring.

How do I to set up transfer numbers?

It's easy. If you want to transfer a call to certain number (like your cell phone), enter the number once and CallWave will remember it for you.
  • Click the "Menu" button on your CallWave window
  • Select "Take The Call & Transfer Settings..."

  • You'll then see this window:

  • Enter the name of the phone (for example: My Cell Phone) and the phone number (for example: 805-555-1212)
  • Click the "OK" button when you're done!
After you enter the names and phone numbers, your Call Wave window will look like this when a call comes in:

You can choose to transfer the call to your home phone (disconnecting you from the Internet), or transfer the call to another phone (and remain online). After selecting one, just wait for that phone to ring. Or, you can simply ignore the call and we'll take a message for you as usual.

How much time do I have when I speak to a caller?

Depending on your service level, you can talk to your caller for up to 60 minutes per call.

Why wasn't my caller there when I answered my phone?

The most common reason is due to callers who hang-up before CallWave has a chance to connect them to your phone. If this problem persists, please contact CallWave Customer Care. Just call 775-993-9995. Please remember to leave your name, telephone number, and a brief description of your question or problem.

Why does it seem that some of my callers record two messages on the same call?

If we are unable to connect your call when you request a connection, then we allow your caller the chance to finish recording the message. So, sometimes you'll hear the initial recording (before you transfer the call) followed by another recording if we were unable to connect your call.

Why didn't my phone ring when I clicked to take a call or transfer a call?

Make sure to give your phone time to ring before picking it up to talk. If you select "Take Call On My Phone" and you have to switch your phone line from your computer modem to your phone in order to pick up your phone, make sure to wait for your Internet session to end (CallWave does this for you). Once that's done, you'll have a few seconds to switch your phone line into your phone. You may consider getting a phone jack that splits one line into two lines (sometimes called a splitter jack). This would allow you to connect your phone and computer modem to a single phone line at the same time. Most electronic supplies and hardware stores carry these inexpensive devices.

Take a Message

CallWave's Take A Message feature allows callers to leave you a message when they call (which you'll hear instantly on your PC speakers if you're online)! If your callers need more time to record their messages, you can extend your message length up to 3 minutes.

Will CallWave Take A Message for me?

Depending on your service level, CallWave will take your caller's message just like an answering machine.

Does my ability to Take A Message depend on my service level?

Yes. CallWave Messenger and Connect will take and play your caller's message instantly on your PC speakers. CallWave Alert does not Take a Message (you'll only see the name and Caller ID of your caller).

Does my ability to Take a Message depend on the phone number my callers dialed?

Yes. If your callers dial your Current Phone Number, you'll hear their message instantly through your PC speakers whenever you're online. If they dial your Toll-Free Home Number, 1-877-CALLWAV (1-877-225-5928), or your CallWave Phone Number, they can leave a message for you anytime — you'll get their message the next time you go online, or you can call in to check your messages 24/7.
